NHL to announce Quarter-Century Teams in 2025

If you’ve got thoughts on which players are the best from the past 25 years, now’s your chance to let your opinions be heard.

The NHL plans to release the league’s Quarter-Century Team as well as club-specific Quarter-Century Teams throughout the final days of 2024 and the early portion of 2025, the league announced Saturday.

The selection process is aimed at determining who the most definitive and best players of the first quarter of the 2000s are, for both the league as a whole and for every franchise, starting from Jan. 1, 2000, to the present day.

According to the league, they’ll reveal each team’s First and Second Quarter-Century Teams from Dec. 30, 2024, to Jan. 31, 2025, which will be determined by a panel of media members, retired players and executives specific to that club. Both the first and second teams will consist of three forwards, two defencemen and one goaltender.

Then, following the announcements of each club-specific commemorative team, the NHL will hold a fan vote from Feb. 12 to Feb. 26 to select the NHL Quarter-Century Team.

The voting will determine the top 25 players of the past 25 years regardless of position and will be done on both NHL.com and X, formerly known as Twitter. Only players selected to a club’s Quarter-Century Team will be eligible for selection.

The release date for those results has yet to be determined.
