The NHL Draft is headed back to Los Angeles.
For a second time, L.A. and the Los Angeles Kings will host the draft, the NHL announced Saturday. However, things will look a little bit different in 2025 than they did in 2010.
This year, top prospects, fans and media will attend the event at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater on June 27 and 28, while NHL executives, scouts and coaches will participate virtually — a similar setup to those of the NFL and NBA.
Traditionally, NHL executives attend and strategize from the draft floor.
“The NHL Draft is an amazing showcase of the future stars of the National Hockey League, so it’s only fitting for it to be held in Los Angeles — a city filled with stars,” said Steve Mayer, president, NHL Events & Content in a release by the league. “With the support of the Kings, LA Tourism and Upper Deck, the prospects and our fans can expect a first-rate event with a new look and creative approach. We are excited to share more details in the coming months.”
Last year’s draft was held at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
The first round of the draft will be held on the 27th, and rounds 2 through 7 will be conducted on the 28th.
The top pick in 2025 is projected to be between four prospects, with Saginaw Spirit forward Michael Misa, Erie Otters defenceman Matthew Schaefer, Brampton Steelheads forward Porter Martone and Boston College forward James Hagens vying to be selected No. 1.
There has been no announcement of when the NHL will host the Draft Lottery, but entering play on Saturday, the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators had the three highest odds of winning the top selection.
