Nick Sirianni: A.J. Brown wasn't pointing fingers at Jalen Hurts

A.J. Brown might have a problem with Jalen Hurts. He definitely has a problem with the Eagles' passing game.

The Eagles receiver was asked postgame what the offense needs to work on after a close call against the 3-10 Panthers, and his one-word answer — "passing" — said a lot. Brown added "there's not too much conversation" between he and Hurts.

Hurts targeted Brown only four times, and the three-time Pro Bowler caught all four passes for 43 yards Sunday.

The fire was smoldering when defensive end Brandon Graham threw gasoline on it Monday, suggesting Hurts and Brown aren't as close as they once were.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni attempted to put out the fire Tuesday in an appearance on 94 WIP, denying Brown's comments were meant to point fingers at Hurts.

"I didn’t take it that way," Sirianni said during his weekly radio appearance, via Tim McManus of ESPN. "You can do anything and spin it any way. I took it as we want to get better as a passing attack. A.J. is part of the passing attack. And so, we all want to be better at it.

"Jalen and A.J. are both really outstanding people and both really outstanding players. I love that our players are wanting to get better and desire to get better, and that's what we talk about all of the time -- is how we get better and be able to do things that are special."

Graham took Brown's comments as a shot at Hurts. Graham called out Brown after Brown seemingly called out Hurts, who was 14-of-21 for 108 yards and two touchdowns Sunday.

Graham later tried to walk back his comments and said he would apologize to his comments for stirring the pot.

"The person that's complaining needs to be accountable," Graham said. "I don't know the whole story, but I know that [Hurts] is trying and [Brown] could be a little better with how he responds to things. They were friends before this, but things have changed, and I understand that because life happens. But it's the business side that we have to make sure the personal doesn't get in the way of the business."

Running back Saquon Barkley has been the MVP of the Eagles offense and thus is a league MVP candidate. But the Eagles are last in passing attempts with 328, and Brown has said it has been hard to get in a rhythm in the passing game.

Sirianni appears unconcerned.

"All I can judge things on is what I see on a daily basis," Sirianni said. "When I see A.J. and Jalen communicating about the game plan, eating lunch together every single day, praying with each other before the game. There's going to be speculation, and I get it -- rightfully so based on what has happened the last couple of days -- but all you can do is judge what you see."
