Oilers, Flames game paused after medical emergency in stands

Someone in the stands at Saturday’s game between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames was taken away in an ambulance after experiencing a medical emergency.

The emergency led to the game in Edmonton being paused for nearly 10 minutes early in the first period.

Sportsnet’s Louie DeBrusk reported that the person collapsed on some stairs behind the Oilers bench. The team did not have an immediate update on their condition.

League rules require an ambulance to be in the building at all times on game night, so the officials could not resume the game until a replacement ambulance arrived.
