Oilers say McDavid, Nurse are fine after ‘freak accident’ at practice
Edmonton head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters after practice that both McDavid and defenceman Darnell Nurse were “ok” after the two ran collided at practice.
Oilers fans held their breath after hearing that superstar Connor McDavid left practice early on Tuesday, but can now exhale after receiving some good news.
Edmonton head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters after practice that both McDavid and defenceman Darnell Nurse were “ok” after the two ran collided at practice.
“I think [McDavid is] doing alright,” Knoblauch said. “If he wasn’t, I’m sure I probably would’ve gotten an update right away.”
The incident occurred during the team’s practice Tuesday morning. The team was running a drill that saw the two collide and McDavid go down to the ice. Edmonton’s captain managed to get up on his own but exited the ice cautiously.
“You don’t want to see any of that. Sometimes it happens,” Knoblauch said. “Gotta be careful on the drills that you do… but if you never have any contact, you’re not having game-like practices and situations. And that one was just a freak accident.
“I think everyone’s ok.”

Knoblauch also provided injury updates to forwards Viktor Arvidsson and Zach Hyman, with the former taking place in the team’s line rushes on Tuesday.
The coach said that Arvidsson could “possibly play” against Boston on Thursday despite this being his first real practice back with the team.
“The anticipation is that he’ll be playing sometime this week,” Knoblauch said.
Arvidsson, 31, has struggled in his first year in Edmonton, tallying only two goals and three assists in 16 games with the team. He’s been out since Nov. 12 with an undisclosed injury.
Hyman, meanwhile, took a shot from teammate Evan Bouchard to the face in Monday’s 6-5 loss to the Florida Panthers. He went straight to the team’s dressing room but managed to return in the third period wearing a fishbowl visor.
When asked if he had an update on the forward, Knoblauch joked that he “just doesn’t look any better.” But fortunately, there’s no concussion and that he should be fine to play.
