Oilers’ Stuart Skinner considered day-to-day

It looks like the Edmonton Oilers won’t be without their starting goaltender for too long.

Stuart Skinner, who left Wednesday’s game against the Dallas Stars in the third period, is considered day-to-day, head coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters on Thursday ahead of their match against the Seattle Kraken.

He was injured late on Wednesday when Stars winger Mikko Rantanen struck him in the head with his knee. The contact appeared to be incidental, but Skinner was removed from the game and replaced by backup Calvin Pickard.

Knoblauch told reporters after that game that Skinner would not travel with the team. Pickard will start for the Oilers against the Kraken.

In 49 games this season, Skinner has posted a 2.91 goals-against average and .894 save percentage.

Knoblauch also told reporters that Mattias Ekholm will not suit up in the second half of the back-to-back due to a maintenance day. Ty Emberson and John Klingberg will return to the lineup.
