Olli Maatta signs three-year contract extension in Utah

Olli Maatta will be staying with the NHL’s newest hockey club.

Utah Hockey Club has signed the defenceman to a three-year extension at $3.5 million AAV.

Maatta, 30, has two goals, 12 assists, and 101 blocked shots in 50 games this season. He also ranks third in ice time among his teammates with an average of 20:41.

“Olli has made an immediate and noticeable impact and a positive impression on everyone in our group,” Chris Armstrong, Utah’s president of hockey operations said in a press release. “He is an important influence on the culture we continue to foster and the standards we have for our team. We are grateful for the commitment he is making to our organization.”

Utah acquired Maatta from the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 29, 2024 in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Maatta also played for Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off where he tallied two assists in three games and was one of only four defencemen to total multiple points.
