It appears the Matthew Tkachuk injury could be problematic for the Florida Panthers.
Head coach Paul Maurice said on the Joe Rose Show that Tkachuk’s injury could be a bit longer term, “but he’s playing for us this year.”
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman says it’s believed to be a groin injury for Tkachuk, which hampered him during the 4 Nations Face-Off.
The Panthers are confident that the 27-year-old will be able to return to the team at some point this season.
Tkachuk first experienced discomfort during the 4 Nations Face-Off, when he helped lead the United States to the tournament final. He was limited to 6:47 of ice time in the United States’ 3-2 finals loss against Canada on Thursday.
Tkachuk has 22 goals and 35 assists for the Panthers this season.
