The Panthers took home a 4-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers in a rematch of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final and extended the Oilers’ losing streak to a season-high five games.
Carter Verhaeghe, who scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal in June, ended up with the game-winner at 13:51 of the third period, minutes after Nate Schmidt broke a 2-2 tie.
Zach Hyman scored at six-on-five to bring the Oilers within one, but it wasn’t enough to take Edmonton past the finish line.
Leon Draisaitl, with a goal now in seven straight games, tied it for Edmonton after the Panthers pulled ahead in the second period. He now has an NHL-leading 44 goals in 59 games.
Uvis Balinkis and Anton Lundell also scored for the Panthers, while Brett Kulak scored the other Oilers marker.
More to come.
