Panthers head coach Dave Canales gave an update on running back Jonathon Brooks's knee injury at his Monday press conference and it was not a positive one.
Canales said that Brooks tore the ACL in his right knee during Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Eagles. Brooks tore the same ACL during his final season at Texas and the second-round pick was playing in his third game after being activated from the non-football injury list.
"My heart is with him," Canales said. "The amount of hard work that he put in to get back to this place, to get him to play. He's heartbroken, I'm heartbroken."
Canales said that the team is only thinking about getting Brooks healthy when asked about a timeline for his recovery.
Chuba Hubbard crossed the 1,000-yard mark on the season during Sunday's game and will remain the lead back. Raheem Blackshear is on the 53-man roster, but had a chest injury that knocked him out on Sunday. Mike Boone is on the practice squad and Canales said the team might also consider bringing in another back.
