Patrick Mahomes says he will know more about his injured ankle Monday
The Chiefs quarterback left in the fourth quarter with what PFT has reported is a high-ankle sprain.
Patrick Mahomes' injured ankle is sore, but coach Andy Reid called the Chiefs quarterback "day to day" after the game.
"Patrick, his right ankle has been hurt. It's not broken, but it’s sore," Reid said, via NFL.com. "He'll get started on the rehab part of it as we go, and then we'll just have to see how he does down the road here."
PFT reported earlier than Mahomes has a high-ankle sprain.
Mahomes also injured his left ankle.
He will undergo further testing Monday, when Mahomes said he would know more.
"It's hard to say right now. Obviously, still adrenaline rolling," Mahomes said of his injury. "Usually the day after is when you get a good sense of it. I feel like I could have finished the game in different circumstances. But I thought the smart decision was put Carson [Wentz] in. He's played a lot of football, and he finished the game well."
Mahomes left the game with 7:57 remaining after being hit high and low, with his legs twisting underneath him, on a fourth-down incompletion.
The Chiefs were up 21-7, which ended up being the final.
"I was trying to make a play happen," Mahomes said. "As I threw the ball I got hit, and I haven't seen it, [but] It felt like someone hit me from behind as well, so kind of got rolled up on. Kind of happens in football. Try to bounce back up, but obviously it hurt a little bit. Now we'll get after the rehab part of it and try to be ready for next week."
The Chiefs play the Texans on Saturday and the Steelers on Christmas Day, but they have already clinched the division and have a two-game lead in the race for the No. 1 seed.
