The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without Michael Bunting for the foreseeable future.

Head coach Mike Sullivan announced Thursday that the forward had undergone surgery on Wednesday to remove his appendix.

According to Sullivan, Bunting’s return timeline is unknown.

Bunting, 29, played in the Penguins’ most recent game, a 6-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

The Scarborough, Ont., native has appeared in 58 games this season, recording 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points.

In 326 career games with the Arizona Coyotes, Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes and Penguins, he has 210 points (90 goals and 120 assists).
