Goaltender Tristan Jarry is getting another chance with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Pittsburgh recalled Jarry from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League on Monday.
After establishing himself as the team’s No. 1 netminder, Jarry signed a five-year, $26.8-million contract extension with the Penguins on July 1, 2023.
Jarry struggled last year, though, and lost the starting role to Alex Nedeljkovic. Although Jarry reclaimed his spot atop the depth chart entering this season, he stumbled out of the gate and was sent to the AHL for a conditioning stint.
He was placed on waivers in January and sent down to the AHL after he cleared.
The 29-year-old from Surrey, B.C., posted an 8-8-4 record, 3.26 goals-against average and .886 save percentage in 22 games with Pittsburgh this season.
He also has a 6-5-1 record, 2.67 GAA and .908 save percentage with one shutout in 12 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Pittsburgh also re-assigned goaltender Joel Blomqvist to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Blomqvist appeared in 15 games with Pittsburgh, registering a 4-9-1 record, 3.81 GAA and .885 save percentage.
Pittsburgh (24-29-10) is last in the Metropolitan Division and eight points out of a wild-card spot.
