The new season of the Billiards Ekstraklasa organized by the Polish Billiards Association starts on Thursday, April 17. Every match will be available to watch online for free!
First, let’s talk about what the Polish Billiards Ekstraklasa is. It is one of the most watched team competitions in Europe. This is due to the unique game system, combining proven solutions in a form that guarantees the greatest emotions. Doubles pairs are responsible for scoring points in matches, each subsequent pair starts the game with an advantage or loss, developed by their predecessors. Each team must field three pairs, with at least four players at their disposal.
The level of the teams is decided by the top billiards players from Europe and the world. The strongest line-up seems to be the GKS Katowice team, which has the world champion Wojciech Szewczyk and the Daniel Macioł. The pillar of the Rokietnica team is Radosław Babica – a multiple medalist of the European Championships. Fortis Kielce can always rely on Karol Skowerski, who won the silver medal at the World Cup in doubles, and the European champion, Sebastian Batkowski. The league has many great players from the world billiards rankings, so a high level of competition is guaranteed.
For many reasons, fans of the billiards sport can expect an incredibly exciting season. – Suffice it to say that this year, a total of 71 teams from all over Poland are playing at all levels of the competition! This is a record result showing that interest in pool billiards in our country is constantly growing – comments the vice-president of the Polish Billiards Association, Grzegorz Kędzierski.
Of course, each of these teams is fighting to play in the Billiards Ekstraklasa someday. In the new season, nine teams will play at the highest level: GKS Katowice, Akademia Bilardowa Rokietnica, Fortis Bilard Kielce, Europool Arkadia Tczew, Fortis II Kielce, Zakręcona Bila Poznań, Bank Spółdzielczy w Sokółce LP Sokółka, Strefa Łódź and Arkadia II Tczew.
The first meeting is ahead of us, which will traditionally take place in Kielce. The inaugural match will start on Thursday, April 17 at 9:00 a.m. local time with a Fortis Kielce derby against the second Fortis team, which advanced to the highest level of the competition last year.
During four three-day sessions, which will take place throughout the year, the teams will play in a round robin system. The four best teams from the regular round will face off in Final4, where they will fight for the title of the Polish Team Champion in Billiards 2025.
