Predators’ Roman Josi day to day with upper-body injury, still being evaluated

The Nashville Predators will be hoping for some good news for their captain.

Defenceman Roman Josi has been listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury, head coach Andrew Brunette told reporters on Wednesday after practice.

Brunette did not seem sure as to the severity of the injury, clarifying that the captain is still being evaluated.

“I don’t really know, I’m not a doctor,” Brunette told Alex Daugherty of The Tennessean. “With those things, it’s day-to-day, week-to-week, or it could be season-ending. We don’t really know.”

Josi suffered the injury in Tuesday’s 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers after taking a hit from forward Sam Bennett midway through the second period. His head hit the glass on the play and he fell to the ice.

The defenceman stayed in for the remainder of the second but did not return to the bench for the final frame.

Josi, 34, hasn’t produced up to his usual standards this season, tallying nine goals and 29 assists and has a career-worst minus-26 plus-minus over 53 games. He had 23 goals and 62 assists after suiting up for all 82 games in the 2023-24 season.

The Predators have had a rough season, sporting a 20-30-7 record good for seventh place in the Central Division. They return to action against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
