With two big divisional games coming up to end the season, the Rams took care of business against the Jets on Sunday with a 19-9 win.
While New York controlled the ball and the clock for much of the contest, the Rams had a couple of big plays in the second half to bring things in their favor.
Up 9-6 at the start of the third quarter, the Jets had a 14-play drive to start the second half but came away with no points when an Aaron Rodgers pass was broken up on fourth-and-4 from Los Angeles’ 13-yard line.
After tying the contest with Joshua Karty’s 38-yard field goal to cap a 13-play possession, the Rams got the turnover the defense desperately needed. Safety Kam Curl strip-sacked quarterback Aaron Rodgers with linebacker Jared Verse recovering the loose ball for an extra possession at New York’s 21-yard line.
Tight end Tyler Higbee — making his 2024 debut after tearing his ACL and MCL in last year’s postseason — caught an 11-yard touchdown to put Los Angeles up 16-9.
Karty then hit a 45-yard field goal to go up 19-9 after the defense recorded another fourth-down stop.
While the Jets were going to have a chance for a two-minute drill with no timeouts remaining, returner Xavier Gipson muffed the punt with the Rams recovering to effectively end the game.
There were just three possessions each in the first half and one possession each in the third quarter.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford finished the game 14-of-19 for 110 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Kyren Williams had another terrific game, rushing for 122 yards on 23 carries.
On the other side, Rodgers finished 28-of-42 for 256 yards with a touchdown. He’s now just one away from 500 career passing touchdowns. Davante Adams had seven catches for 68 yards with a TD.
The Rams are now 9-6 after starting the season 1-4 and in first place in the NFC West. They will play the Cardinals next Saturday night and could have a shot to clinch the division.
The Jets are now 4-11 and will be on the road to face the Bills next Sunday.
