Rangers’ Chris Kreider out vs. Islanders, day-to-day with upper-body injury

Chris Kreider‘s day-to-day status will keep him out of a second consecutive game on Tuesday.

Kreider was ruled out of a contest against the New York Islanders about a half-hour before faceoff because of an upper-body injury.

The Rangers recalled Brennan Othmann from AHL Hartford on Monday, a sign that Kreider could remain out.

Othmann, picked 16th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, was expected to make his season debut on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old Kreider played for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off and then suited up for New York’s loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, scoring a goal and logging 15:02 of ice time. He was a late scratch for Sunday’s matinee against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With the Rangers this season, the 13-year NHL veteran has 17 goals and four assists in 48 games.
