Star goaltender Igor Shesterkin told reporters on Thursday that he expects to be ready to return from an upper-body injury when the Rangers visit the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Head coach Peter Laviolette echoed that, confirming Shesterkin will play for the Rangers over the weekend.
Shesterkin sustained an upper-body injury ahead of the 4 Nations break against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 7. The goalie remained in the game, but the team later announced he would be out one-to-two weeks with the ailment.
In 39 games this season, the former Vezina Trophy winner has recorded a .906 save percentage, 2.87 goals-against average and three shutouts with an 18-19-2 record.
