Rangers use big third period to down Canucks

J.T. Miller got the last laugh in his first game against the Vancouver Canucks since being traded to the New York Rangers in January, burying an empty netter to lift his team to a 5-3 win.

New York scored four goals in a wild third period to come away with a win over the visiting Canucks.

Jonny Brodzinski scored twice and Igor Shesterkin stopped 36 shots to lead the way for the Rangers.

Dakota Joshua and Brock Boeser scored for Vancouver in the final 20 minutes, but Brodzinski’s tally with less than five minutes remaining in the contest stood as the winner.

The win moved the Rangers to 74 points on the season — pulling even with the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference wild-card race ahead of the Habs’ game later Saturday.

More to come.
