The Boston Bruins will be without one of their top enforcers and may have to change their plans ahead of the trade deadline.
After suffering an injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, forward Trent Frederic is considered week to week with a lower-body issue and could be out through the March 7 deadline, Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reports.
Frederic was not at the team’s morning skate on Thursday. He exited Tuesday’s game in the second period after logging only 5:18 of ice time. It’s unclear how he suffered the injury.
The 27-year-old enforcer has eight goals and seven assists to go along with 155 hits and 44 penalty minutes over 57 games this season. He has an average time-on-ice of 13:50.
The St. Louis, Mo., native is a pending unrestricted free agent this off-season and carries a $2.3 million cap hit. Steam around him had picked up in the trade market as one of the more likely Bruins pieces to be moved ahead of the deadline.
Selected by Boston 29th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft, Frederic has 55 goals, 54 assists, 670 hits and 307 penalty minutes over 337 regular season contests.
