The Columbus Blue Jackets will appear in their first-ever outdoor game this weekend on a rink that celebrates the franchise and The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
The NHL unveiled the first rendering of the rink for the upcoming Stadium Series game between the Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings at Ohio Stadium.
The theme is “game day traditions.” The rink decking is inspired by Ohio State’s logo and features Blue Jackets colours. The cannon that fires after every Blue Jackets goal will be moved over to the stadium to continue that tradition.
The Ohio State Athletic Band will lead a performance during player introductions as well as throughout the game.
Twenty One Pilots will perform in the first intermission and the second intermission will feature a celebration of Ohio State’s championship teams, including football and women’s hockey.
Tributes to the late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau are also planned throughout the game.
The Blue Jackets will host the Red Wings at Ohio Stadium at 6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT on Saturday. Fans in Canada can watch the game on FX and Sportsnet+.
