While naming Jake Haener the starter for Sunday's game against the Commanders, the Saints did not rule out Derek Carr. They instead listed the starting quarterback as doubtful with a concussion and a left hand injury.
The Saints made Carr's status official Saturday: He will not play this week.
The team left open the possibility that Carr could dress and backup Haener. Instead, rookie Spencer Rattler will serve as the backup.
This marks Haener's first career regular-season start.
The Saints started Rattler for the three games Carr missed earlier this season and went 0-3.
The team also announced it activated defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon from the reserve/physically unable to perform list and placed linebacker D'Marco Jackson on injured reserve. The Saints already had ruled out Jackson with an ankle injury.
