The San Jose Sharks are going to be without their top rookie, at least for now.

After suffering a lower-body injury on Tuesday, the Sharks say that Macklin Celebrini will be sidelined day-to-day with the ailment.

The 2024 first-overall pick exited Tuesday’s game against Utah Hockey Club following a collision with the end boards, which occurred at the 13-minute mark as Celebrini was tripped on a breakaway chance.

He was in apparent pain after the collision but managed to get up and get back in the play. He played another shift, which lasted one minute, 43 seconds before heading to the team’s locker room later in the frame.

However, he did not return to the team’s bench to start the third.

He had played 10 minutes, 54 seconds and had two shots on goal before being taken out.

This was the 18-year-old’s second pre-season appearance with the Sharks after he picked up a goal and an assist in his debut against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sept. 22.

The Sharks have two more pre-season games before opening their regular season at home on Oct. 10.
