The Stars have agreed to a five-year, $42 million extension on young star Wyatt Johnston, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday.

Despite putting all their chips on the table for a run at the cup with a blockbuster Mikko Rantanen deal, the Dallas Stars are making sure to set themselves up for success in the long term.
The Stars are completing a five-year, $42 million extension on young star Wyatt Johnston, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday. The deal will carry an average annual value of $8.4 million.
Johnston has 23 goals and 59 points in 62 games this season with the Stars.
In three seasons, the Toronto native has 79 goals and 165 points in 226 career games.
Dallas selected Johnston in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
The 21-year-old had an impressive run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year scoring 10 goals and 16 points in 19 games.
It has been a busy day for the Stars who made a blockbuster deal to acquire Mikko Rantanen and then signed the star forward to an eight-year, $96 million extension.
