The U.S. secured a spot in Thursday’s final two nights earlier, while Sweden was eliminated earlier Monday when Canada booked the other ticket in the championship game with a win over Finland.
Sweden finishes third with one win and two overtime losses. The Swedes had the same amount of points as Canada, but the Canadians moved on by virtue of their tournament-opening win over Sweden.
The U.S. does have some injury concerns. Brady Tkachuk exited Monday’s game after crashing into the net in the first period.
Auston Matthews was a late-scratch, but the Americans are confident he’ll be back for Thursday’s game.
Charlie McAvoy and Matthew Tkachuk also were out for the USA.
Chris Kreider opened the scoring for the Americans 35 seconds into the game before Gustav Nyquist and Jesper Bratt scored later in the first period for the Swedes.
