The 2024 BetVictor Scottish Open is expected to return to Edinburg at the Meadowbank Sports Center from 9th -15th December 2024. This will be the 11th-ranking event in the 2024/2025 season after the 2024 shootout and the third tournament in the Home Nations Series this year. The event will see two-time defending champion Gary Wilson attempting to secure his third consecutive title in the event after successfully winning and dominating the event against Noppon Saengkham in 2023.
Gary is on a 14-game winning streak in the event and has proven to be a formidable player in this event. However, the 2024 BetVictor Scottish championship might be a little more challenging for the defending champion as other top players like the current world champion Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, and Noppon will be competing. Here is everything you need to know about this upcoming professional snooker tournament.
What’s the playing format for the 2024 BetVictor Scottish Open?
The BetVictor Scottish Open will kick off from 9th – 15th December in Edinburg following the qualifiers that took place from 28th – 30th October 2024 at the Sheffield Ponds Forge International Sports Center. This pro snooker tournament will feature a new format recently introduced by the WST for its four annual home competitions this season.
During the qualifying round, players seeded 97-128 will face players seeded 65-96. The second qualifying round will feature the 32 players who will claim a victory in the first round facing those seeded 33-64. Additionally, the 32 winners in round two will face the top 32 seeds.
All the matches will take place as best of sevens until the quarterfinals, which will be best of nines. However, the semi-finals will be best of 11 frames and the final will take place in a best of 17s played in two sessions.
2024 Scottish Open Preview and Betting Predictions
The 2024 Scottish Open promises snooker enthusiasts a thrilling action with the best players across the world competing to dethrone Gary Wilson from his title. The two-time winner and defending champion will be looking to advance his number of wins this year, after dominating the 2024 Welsh Open to claim the title. As such, Wilson ranks among the favorites, and experts at Sportytrader recommend punters use FanDuel Promotions for new users to bet on him to reach the final.
Should Wilson fall short this year, top contenders expected to yield great results this year include Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson, and Ronnie O’Sullivan. Kyren and Robertson have the first two opening events of the Home Nations series and are expected to put in a strong performance in the third event. The World’s No 1 Judd Trump is also expected to record an impressive performance, despite not previously winning this title. However, snooker experts predict that Ronnie O’Sullivan withdraw from the event considering this event will take place after the UK Championship and before the Riyadh Snooker Championship season.
