Tennessee is designating receiver Colton Dowell to return, as he makes his way back from a torn ACL suffered last year.
With just three weeks left, head coach Brian Callahan did not commit to playing Dowell before the season’s end.
“I just want to see him," Callahan said Monday, via Jim Wyatt of the team’s website. "He had done some really good things, especially as a gunner on special teams last year. A guy that people were excited about from everything I gathered when I got here. I see him all the time. I talk to him all the time. So, it'll be good to actually see him play football. I think for his mental state and for him to be in there as many months as he's been rehabbing, I think being back on the grass will go a long way."
A seventh-round pick in the 2023 draft, Dowell appeared in 10 games with one start as a rookie. He made one catch for 3 yards but was also on the field for 52 percent of special teams snaps in games played.
