Tom vs Jon analysis/discussion!

So, I'll be outright with part of this...I don't like Jon Jones, nor do I respect him lol That said, his ability to win fights is phenomenal and I am mature enough to give him that. That said, all of us who are MMA fans and not Jones fans know he fought many up sized middleweights in his career, and in doing so he secured most of his finish victories. To be exact, Jon dominated fighters who were 6'1 or shorter, and struggled against those taller although there are a couple exceptions that were Stipe and Gane, which one was retired and the other is a one dimensional fighter that Jon exploited and immediately brought him into unfamiliar waters with a greater talent...but perhaps there's a couple more exceptions to the 6'1 and greater rule but I digress. Jon and Tom are nearly a stylistic nightmare for each other if the fight ends up in each other's wheel house. Tom is fast, he's powerful, he has shut your shit the fuck off power and he's also able to withstand the same type of power. He is always looking to finish the fight as soon as he can, meanwhile Jon against opponents of Tom's stature, seeks to pick them apart over 5 rounds and rely on his conditioning and accuracy to secure the bag. Jon can't simply run for 3 rounds until Tom gets tired, he's going to need to measure his distance and seek to maintain that proper distance in order to slow Tom down..but with Tom's speed, every single time Jon attempts to strike, he will be putting himself at risk of a night night counter blitz. He won't be able to take Tom down like he has other opponents, and if he does, Tom is the bigger and stronger of the two (even Jon has admitted as such) and that although not ideal for Tom either way, will put Jon at risk as well. Jon will be forced to withstand through power and speed he's never experienced before for three rounds in hopes of Tom slowing down, and even in this case...Tom still very well may be able to turn his lights off if the opportunity arises. This will be an amazing fight if it really happens. submitted by /u/CharlieRockChucker [link] [comments]
