The Toronto Maple Leafs stepped up to secure some experienced depth ahead of the trade deadline.
The Leafs acquired centre Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers to shore up their lineup behind Auston Matthews and John Tavares. The club then made a trade with the rival Boston Bruins for defenceman Brandon Carlo.
Now the push is on to beat the Panthers and Lightning for first in the division in the final push to the playoffs.
General manager Brad Treliving will address that race and what Laughton and Carlo add to the Maple Leafs when he meets the media Friday afternoon.
