What are the tactical differences between mma boxing and boxing boxing?
I used to box and have started watching MMA and I wanna understand the sport better. I've noticed that mma fighters only strike at long range or in the clinch. They also keep their stance more square and their hands a little bit lower. I understand this because of the threat of takedowns and small gloves not allowing you to shell up which makes midrange boxing risky. Some things I don’t understand are there isn't any constant head movement and pendulum footwork like boxing. I also noticed that mma fighters don't really keep their head off the centerline the same way boxers do. A lot of them just bullrush into range to close the distance, throw 1-2 punches, and then clinch or get back out. A lot of guys throw body shots without changing levels which exposes their chin. I feel like hand trapping, framing, and defensive traffic are underutilized, considering the smaller gloves make them more effective. Probing jabs aren't commonly utilized. Any other differences? submitted by /u/despop13 [link] [comments]
