What kind of training should i begin?

Hi everyone, I’ve been boxing for many years and consider myself at an intermediate level; solid fundamentals, good timing, footwork, etc. I’ve recently decided I want to train for MMA, but I’m not interested in going to a general “MMA gym” where I’d get a bit of everything but not go deep into anything. My plan is to start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (where I’m a complete beginner) and Muay Thai, to complement my boxing. I know Muay Thai has a different stance and rhythm, but I feel like I can adapt because of my boxing background. My concern is: would training Muay Thai mean I’m “throwing away” all the years I invested in boxing? I’m also wondering: Is it realistic to prepare for an amateur MMA fight within 1-2 years by training these two disciplines separately (BJJ + Muay Thai), without doing “MMA training” per se? Has anyone here successfully transitioned this way? Appreciate any thoughts or advice. submitted by /u/Calsey_ [link] [comments]
