Wild’s Hartman has suspension reduced to eight games

The Minnesota Wild are going to get Ryan Hartman back a little sooner than anticipated.

Hartman’s 10-game suspension for shoving Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle’s head into the ice was reduced to eight games on Monday by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

The NHLPA announced on Feb. 5 that it had filed an appeal on behalf of Hartman regarding the league’s decision to suspend him for 10 games.

If Bettman had upheld the 10-game suspension, Hartman and the NHLPA could’ve brought the appeal to an independent arbitrator.

This isn’t the first suspension — nor second or third or fourth — for Hartman, who is known for his brand of on-the-edge hockey. This is his fifth suspension and fourth in the last two years, and he is considered a repeat offender.

With his suspension reduced to eight games, Hartman will now be eligible to return on March 4 against the Seattle Kraken.
