Wild’s Trenin ejected after late punch that injures Canucks’ Forbort

It’s safe to say there will be no love lost between the the Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild moving forward.
The Western Conference foes went head-to-head on Saturday, and with the Canucks leading 2-1, emotions appeared to boil over.
Following a stoppage whistle a minute into the third period, Minnesota’s Brock Faber and Vancouver’s Linus Karlsson quickly get into a bit of a back-and-forth. Teammates swiftly got involved in the scuffle before officials intervened.
That wasn’t the end of it, however, as Wild centre Yakor Trenin and Canucks defenceman Derek Forbort kept things going with a scrap of their own. The fight ended with both players going down to the ice, at which point Trenin threw a late punch with Forbort’s head on the ice.
Forbot was seen clutching his face following the altercation and eventually had to exit the game and make his way to Vancouver’s locker room.

Trenin was then ejected from the game following a lengthy review by the officials. And he made his displeasure with the decision known, as Trenin verbally berrated the officials before making his way off the ice. The 28-year-old even tried to make a bee-line towards a couple Canucks players before eventually leaving the contest for good.
That still wasn’t the extent of it, however, as officials also hit Canucks centre Teddy Blueger with an interference minor on the play for hitting Trenin with his stick while on the bench. Blueger’s penalty subsequently offset Trenin’s unsportsmanlike minor, which meant that Vancouver didn’t end up on a power play afterward.
After the game, a few Canucks voiced their displeasure with Trenin’s late punch.
Canucks captain Quinn Hughes called Trenin’s antics a “circus act,” while defenceman Marcus Pettersson said the punch was “one of the worst things he’s ever seen.”
Vancouver head coach Tocchet agreed with Pettersson’s assessment and also said he had no update on Forbort’s status.
The Canucks went on to lose to the Wild 3-2 in overtime.
