Wild’s Zuccarello, Eriksson Ek exit vs. Canadiens with injuries
Mats Zuccarello left in the first period after he was hit in the abdominal area by a point shot from defenceman and teammate Brock Faber and did not return for the remainder of the game.
The Minnesota Wild were down two of their prominent forwards for most of Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Mats Zuccarello left in the first period after he was hit in the abdominal area by a point shot from defenceman and teammate Brock Faber and did not return for the remainder of the game.
The incident happened with just over seven minutes to go in the opening frame. Zuccarello doubled over in pain immediately after being hit and was helped off the ice and to the team’s locker room. He played just 3:15 before exiting.
The 16-year NHL veteran has appeared in all 15 Wild games prior to Thursday, scoring six goals and 14 points in 18:23 of ice time.
The Wild were dealt another blow when Joel Eriksson Ek also left in the first and did not return.
It’s not immediately clear when the 27-year-old suffered the injury, but was seen wincing on the bench following his final shift.
The Swede has five goals and eight points in 13 games this season. He missed to games in October after undergoing surgery on a broken nose.
